O Christmas Tree – a holiday card for 2011

Although I was not as ambitious as last year, I’ve created a new holiday card for 2011 – “O Christmas Tree.” The original painting was created using acrylic paints and paper collage and was inspired by the Christmas tree farms of nearby Silverton, Oregon. The card can be purchased individually or combined with any of my holiday cards from last year. A full collection of holiday cards can be found here. Pricing is as follows:

November at Lunaria – A Tribute to Trees

For the month of November, Ann Altman and I will be the featured artists at Lunaria Gallery in Silverton. Our show, “Squares and Circles” will open with a special artists’ reception at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 4.

For the show, I have created twelve new pieces on square canvases – each featuring trees of the Pacific NW. Each piece combines acrylic paint and paper collage. I’ll also have a number of existing pieces on display – most also using a square canvas – to create a sense of unity and symmetry throughout the show.

Ann’s work, in contrast, features bright colors and an imaginative folk-art feeling. Each piece will feature some aspect of a circle, from bicycle wheels to drum circles. The artwork is executed with oil pastels and acrylic on wood panels.

I hope you will visit the show throughout the month.

Another new piece for my summer shows – “Columbia River by Rail.” During our annual treks to Idaho along I-84, it is hard not to enjoy the amazing views along the Columbia River Gorge. Our kids are equally fascinated by the long trains that can be found in the same region… this new mixed media painting (paper collage and acrylics) captures both!

A new work for the Silverton Fine Arts Festival – Mount Hood over Portland, Oregon. It is hard to beat the Portland skyline, especially those views with Hood in the background. What a magnificent city!

Line Dry – a new work for the Salem Art Fair

Another new piece for the show – “Line Dry.” And yes, those are real clothespins! Later this fall, I hope to create a mixed-media, assemblage series that uses found objects. This was a fun, first attempt!

2011 Salem Art Fair and Festival

I hope you will visit me at the 2011 Salem Art Fair and Festival. I am honored to participate in this nationally-ranked show located just a few blocks from my home in beautiful Bush Park. The 62nd annual show features more than 200 artists from across the country, including many wonderful friends and mentors in the local art community – Ann Altman, Ruth Armitage, and this year’s poster artist, Jamee Linton, among others. This year’s show is open on Friday, July 15 (10 AM – 7:00 PM), Saturday, July 16 (10 AM – 7 PM) and Sunday, July 17 (10 AM – 5 PM).

My booth (210) will be located on aisle 19 between the main path and the derby track. I am excited to showcase a number of new mixed-media paintings, including “Opal Creek Wilderness” (below).

I look forward to seeing you next weekend. For those unable to attend the Salem Art Fair and Festival, I will also be participating in the Silverton Fine Arts Festival on the weekend of August 20-21.

2011 Salem Art Association Clay Ball

For the fourth year in a row my art will be featured in the 2011 Clay Ball, benefitting the programs and services of the Salem Art Association. The Clay Ball is one of the signature cultural events in the Willamette Valley and I am proud that my art will be displayed alongside several of my closest friends and mentors in the arts community, including Ann Altman, Jamee Linton, Ruth Armitage, Kristin Kuhns and several others. For this year’s Clay Ball, I have donated three pieces depicting the beautiful Cascade Volcanic Range. I hope you will make it!
